Poems

Poetry is the engine room of all my creative endeavours. From songwriting to playwriting, it is poetry that nourishes and sustains them.

The play Thora began life as a poem, His Hands, that was one of a number of poems used as resources on the St Magnus Way long distance pilgrimage route. The St Magnus Cathedral Stone was written for the installation of the brass and flagstone St Magnus Way marker stone outside St Magnus Cathedral. Let There Be Stones, a poem in three parts, formed the basis of the HMS Hampshire centenary commemoration service in 2016.

In 2024, Push The Boat Out poetry festival commissioned a long form poetry collaboration on the theme of climate change. Working with physical theatre maker Ruxy Cantir, we created In Deep, a fifteen minute collaboration between poetry and clowning, set on the fictional island of Galva where sea levels are rising. Co-commissioned by the National Theatre Scotland, who assisted with props, costume, rehearsal space and dramaturgy, the piece was performed for the first time in the Scottish Storytelling Centre in November 2024.
